Experienced Veterinary Dermatologist

My interest in veterinary medicine first began at the age of 13, after reading all of James Herriot's books about his adventures as an English Countryside veterinarian.  In 1995, I graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and started a two-year position in general practice in the Chicago suburbs.  I quickly developed a passion for dermatology, as nearly one-third of all my patients presented with some form of skin disease.  In 1999, I successfully passed my veterinary dermatology board exam after completing a residency at the University of Pennsylvania.  My career in specialty dermatology practice began in the Chicago suburbs with Veterinary Centers of America (VCA).  In 2005, a job transfer and expanding family brought my family back to Iowa, where I began a part-time position in the Dermatology Department at my alma mater, Iowa State.  Eventaully, I moved into private practice in Des Moines.  Veterinary Dermatology Consultation Services, Inc. was born in April 2010.  I began consulting with two specialty practices in Des Moines, and in October 2015, moved into our new location in Johnston. In addition to over 20 years of experience as a veterinary dermatologist in clinical practice, I am a dermatology consultant for Veterinary Information Network (VIN), a community of nearly 40,000 veterinarians worldwide.  Volunteer work is an important part of my life, so I have served on the Examination Committee and currently serve on the Executive Board and the  Marketing and Publicity Committee for the American College of Veterinary Dermatology .  I am active in my Church and serve on the Executive Board of the Dragon Scholarship Fund in Johnston.
